Replace old oil heating or gas heating

Gas and oil heating pollute the environment, and fossil fuels are in short supply. Since the turn of the millennium, the share of oil heating has fallen from 57.8 to 39.8 percent. Zurich was the first canton to effectively ban the installation of new oil-fired heating systems in existing buildings. At the end of their service life, they must be replaced by climate-neutral alternatives. New oil heating systems are only permitted if the alternatives are technically unfeasible or more than 5 percent more expensive over the entire life cycle.

Heat pump as a climate-neutral alternative

The share of heat pumps in Switzerland has almost quadrupled since the turn of the millennium to 16.4 percent. A heat pump heats and cools with geothermal energy or warm air from the environment. That's why it conserves resources, reduces the burden on the environment and lowers your heating costs. The higher initial investment in a heat pump pays for itself in just a few years, because the annual heating costs are significantly lower than those of gas or oil heating systems. In addition, maintenance and servicing cost less.

Costs for a new heating system

A heating fitter or installer charges 75 to 125 Swiss francs an hour. A heating system for an average single-family house costs 25,000 to 50,000 Swiss francs. Gas (about 25,000 Swiss francs) and oil (about 27,5000 Swiss francs) are the cheapest, at least at the beginning. After a few years, the investment in an air-to-air heat pump (about 32,500 Swiss francs), air-to-water heat pump (about 40,000 Swiss francs) or brine-to-water heat pump (about 50,000 Swiss francs) pays off thanks to the low operating costs.
