Starting at 70 percent relative humidity, mold spores feel right at home in rooms and multiply unchecked. This damages the building fabric and your health. Mold can cause respiratory and visual problems, burning eyes, concentration and sleep disorders, headaches and mucous membrane inflammation. The culprits are building defects or residents who ventilate incorrectly. You can remove little mold yourself, but you should leave more to the professionals. We have researched how much professional mold removal or remediation costs.
In our articles "Mold: Prevention Is Better than Removal or Renovation" and "Proper Ventilation in Winter Improves the Climate and Prevents Mold", you can read how to avoid mold.
Mold infestation is divided into grade 0, 1 or 2. Superficial mold stains smaller than a hand fall under grade 0 and can be removed with water and a cleaning or mold removal agent or Javel water itself. If the mold infestation is larger and/or more severe, you should hire a painter or plasterer. First, a mold expert will measure the moisture in the masonry and heat of the walls and prepare a mold report. In most cases, it is not enough to just remove mold: walls must be repainted, floors replaced or walls freshly plastered. The expert report costs 250 to 1,000 Swiss francs.

Professional mold removal involves the removal of all fungal spores. The spores must be removed from every infested surface, possibly including furniture, carpets or curtains. A simple mold removal costs from 1,000 Swiss francs, depending on the size and depth. For example, calculate 500 to 4,000 Swiss francs for an apartment cleaning for a 4- or 5-room apartment with mold in the bathroom and on two window frames. Dry cleaning (400 to 1,600 Swiss francs) is slightly cheaper than mechanical cleaning (500 to 2,000 Swiss francs), and deep cleaning (1,000 to 4,000 Swiss francs) is the most expensive.
Professional mold removal removes the mold and fights spore formation. Add to the cost of chemical cleaning (400 to 1,600 Swiss francs), mechanical cleaning (500 to 2,000 Swiss francs) or deep cleaning (1,000 to 4,000 Swiss francs) the cost of walls that need to be repainted or plastered and floors that need to be replaced. Expect to pay 5,000 Swiss francs or more, depending on the size and depth of the mold infestation.
