Laminate is an inexpensive and in many cases sensible alternative to parquet. Laminate looks like wood and feels like wood, but is easier to maintain. Laminate floors last about 15 to 25 years. Good laminate is abrasion resistant, stain resistant and light resistant. High-quality laminate shows no pressure marks even after years and can even withstand nail polish or cigarette burns. That is why laminate is particularly suitable for rooms where the floor is subjected to greater wear and tear. For example, in the basement, in the children's room or in the kitchen.
The cost depends on the material and the size of the room. The number of square meters determines the amount of work for the preparation and for laying, as well as the cost of the laminate and skirting boards directly. The larger the room, the more laminate, skirting boards and labor you will have to pay.
Laminate is available in many qualities. From cheap laminate, which you can find in the hardware store for 10 Swiss francs per square meter, you should keep your hands off. Good inexpensive laminate costs 40 to 80 Swiss francs per square meter, high-quality laminate for living areas 80 to 120 Swiss francs per square meter. The higher price is justified by the generally longer service life and greater living comfort. Converted to the expected service life of 25 years, an inexpensive laminate costs 3 Swiss francs per square meter and high-quality laminate costs 5 Swiss francs per square meter per year. For skirting boards, you should expect to pay 10 to 20 Swiss francs per linear meter.
A floorer usually charges 80 to 120 Swiss francs an hour. If you want to estimate the cost of labor, calculate 30 to 40 Swiss francs per square meter of laminate for preparation and for laying. That works out to 600 to 800 Swiss francs for a 20-square-meter nursery, for example. The installation of the skirting boards is charged at the normal hourly rate.
