The right craftsmen for thermal insulation

The right craftsmen for thermal insulation

A lot of heat is lost through the building envelope. Mostly through the windows (30 to 40 percent), but also through poorly insulated facades (20 to 25 percent), roofs (up to 20 percent) and basements (5 to 10 percent). Facade builders and painters or plasterers insulate the facade and basement ceiling, roofers the roof. It makes sense to renovate not only the facade or the roof for energy efficiency, but the entire building envelope. Then one of the craftsmen takes over the coordination of all renovation measures.

Thermal insulation: insulate the facade and basement ceiling

For facade insulation or insulation of the basement ceiling there are different insulation materials. For example, glass wool, perlite, polystyrene such as Styrofoam or rock wool such as Rockwool. Facades are insulated from the outside, in the core or from the inside. If the masonry is double-skin, core insulation is the easiest and usually the cheapest. Exterior insulation makes sense if you wanted to renovate the facade anyway, interior insulation is suitable for half-timbered houses or houses that are listed buildings.

Thermal insulation: insulate the roof or attic

Because warm air rises, heat loss through uninsulated or insufficiently insulated roofs is particularly high. That is why roof insulation alone can save several hundred francs in energy costs per year. You can choose between above-rafter, below-rafter or between-rafter insulation with a vapor barrier to prevent water vapor from condensing in the insulation. If you do not want to use your attic as a living space, a simple floor slab insulation is sufficient.

The cost of thermal insulation

For roof insulation, calculate from 40 to 250 francs per square meter: Under-rafter insulation is the cheapest, and above-rafter insulation is the most expensive. Floor slab insulation costs 35 to 80 francs per square meter. For the facade, calculate 50 to 300 francs per square meter. Core insulation is the cheapest, curtain wall the most expensive. Insulating the basement ceiling costs 40 to 120 francs per square meter. These are approximate values. If you want to know more, ask our craftsmen.
