Windows and doors made of plastic or metal last longer than wooden windows and doors. The candle test is an easy way to find out how old your windows are: Hold a lit candle to the glass and look at the window. If you see 2 flames, the window is 15 to 30 years old and the glass would probably need to be replaced. If you see 1 flame, the glass is 30 to 50 years old and would need to be replaced. As long as you see 3 flames, the window is fairly new and everything is fine.

Costs for window installers and new windows or doors

Aluminum-wood windows cost the most, wooden windows the least. Triple-glazed windows are more expensive than double-glazed ones, and double-leaf windows cost more than those with one leaf. Expect to pay 400 to 600 Swiss francs per square meter for a modern triple-glazed window. That's 100 Swiss francs more per square meter than for a double-glazed window, but it pays for itself quickly because of the increased energy efficiency.
